General FAQs

Which CleanCut product is right for me or my family?

Imperial Bathrooms offers four different affordable bathtub retrofit products that provide unique benefits and features. To understand options and differences, please watch our Overview Video or check out our Product Page to learn more!

Do your products work on any type of tub?

Yes, CleanCut products can be installed on any type of tub – porcelain, fiberglass, steel and even cast iron. If it is cast iron, we recommend getting professional installation.

I still want to be able to have a full bath. What should I do?

For full bath functionality while still having a step-through tub, we recommend the Convertible. This is our fastest growing and most versatile product. It comes with a removable center plug that weighs about 2lbs and locks on and off in moments, allowing you to transition from step-in shower to a full bath. This allows you to keep the future value of the tub and is great for multi-generational homes and changing needs.

I want to order a CleanCut kit. When will my product ship out?

We ship everyday Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Order before 11 a.m. EST and it will ship out on the same day. If you order after 11 a.m. EST it will ship out the next business day from our warehouse in Whitby, ON. Canada via FedEx Ground. To view approximate ship times, click here.

How do I know what size to order?

To determine the correct product size for your tub, please watch our Sizing Video. This video will show you the measurements needed and how to obtain them on your tub. Once you have taken the proper measurements, download the Sizing Guides and compare your measurements to the “Tub Requirements” measurements for the desired product. Please note that the Step comes in 3 different sizes. The Convertible and the Ultra-Low comes in 1 size, which is a Large size.

If you still have sizing questions, please feel free to give our office a call or send a photo with measurements to info@imperialbath.net and a team member would be happy to assist you further.

What would my new step-through height be with a CleanCut insert installed?

Your new step-in height is dependent on the original height of your tub. The Step will remove approx. 8 inches from the top of your tub. The Convertible will remove approx. 8 inches from the top of your tub. The Ultra-Low will remove approx. 13.25 inches from the top of your tub. The Door will remove approx. 9 inches from the top of your tub. To find your approximate step-up height with a CleanCut product, first measure the height of your tub on the outside as it is now. Then subtract the approximate removed material above for the product your interested in. This will give you the approximate new step-through height.

Please note that the Ultra-Low is designed to fit high-profile tubs, and in order for it to work on your tub, the tub must be at least 14.75 inches tall on both the inside and outside of the tub. If your tub does not fit this requirement, we recommend the Step or Convertible product.

Do I have to purchase the kit then call an installer?

You would only have to purchase the CleanCut product kit if you plan on putting it in yourself or hiring your own contractor. If you’re looking at having a CleanCut product professional installed by an independent installer who installs them on a regular basis you would not have to purchase the kit in advance. Simply contact an installer by clicking here and the price they provide would include the kit and installation “The All-in Price”.

How much does it cost to get it installed?

As the exclusive Canadian CleanCut Distributor, Imperial Bathrooms does not set installation prices. Prices can vary based on a few factors including tub type, product, etc. and are determined by the independent installer. Imperial Bathrooms partners with over 100 independent installation companies in Canada – to find the closest installer near you, click here and enter in your postal code. From there, you will get a list of company names and numbers that you can contact to get a CleanCut bathtub accessibility kit installed. Please note that the estimate you receive from an independent installer will include both the CleanCut product and installation.

Technical FAQs

Do your products work with a cast iron tub?

Yes – CleanCut products have been installed on hundreds of cast iron tubs. We do recommend you get professional installation. To find an independent professional installer click here.

What tools do you recommend for cutting the tub?

We recommend the following tools be used for cutting the tub: side grinder for entry cuts (if cast iron, use side grinder with diamond blade for all cutting), reciprocating saw for the rest of the cuts and a Jigsaw with a 2.5 inch (total height including shank) fine Jigsaw blade to cut the cleancut product.

What is the product made of?

All CleanCut inserts are made of composite polyethylene plastic – an extremely durable, hard plastic.

My tub has sliding shower doors. Can I still get a CleanCut product installed?

Yes – the sliding doors will just have to be removed prior to installation (and cannot be put back on). We recommend purchasing a new shower curtain and rod in place of the doors.

I have a garden style tub. Can I still get a CleanCut product installed?

Garden tubs have many different styles, and it really depends on the specific tub. If you’d like us to take a closer look at your tub, please send photos and measurements to info@imperialbath.net. From there we can discuss options!

My bathtub has a liner. Can I still get a CleanCut product installed?

We do not recommend installing a CleanCut product on a tub with a liner. Why? You might not know what is under the liner. If it is a cast iron tub, the heat from the cut can melt the liner. Also, the liner could become loose from the back and forth movement while cutting the tub.

My bathtub isn't flat like in your pictures. Can it still be done?

Yes. All the CleanCut products are custom fit to match your existing tubs inside and outside profile. To see how the CleanCut product is trimmed to achieve this please watch the video on trimming the CleanCut product by clicking here.

My bathtub has jets. Can I still get a CleanCut product installed?

We do not recommend it. Why? Water lines for the jets could be cut during installation resulting in possible leaks under your tub.

Can I add a Door to a Step?

Unfortunately, you cannot add a Door to an existing Step cutout, because the part of the tub you cut out for the Step is too large for the Door insert to fit. The best option would be to purchase a Convertible, which has the same size cut out, take out the Step insert and replace with the Convertible.

Which hinge side should I get for the Door?

We recommend getting the hinge side on whatever side the faucet is on in the tub. For example, if you look at your tub and the plumbing is on the left side, you would get a Left-Hinged door (the Door will open towards the plumbing).

How do I know what size product to order?

To determine the correct product size for your tub, please watch our Sizing Video. This video will show you the measurements needed and how to obtain them on your tub. Once you have taken the proper measurements, download the Sizing Guides and compare your measurements to the “Tub Requirements” measurements for the desired product. Please note that the Step comes in 3 different sizes. The Convertible and the Ultra-Low come in 1 size, which is a Large size.

If you still have sizing questions, please feel free to give our office a call or send a photo with measurements to info@imperialbath.net and a team member would be happy to assist you further.

Do your products work with a clawfoot tub?

Unfortunately, CleanCut products are unable to be installed in clawfoot style bathtubs due to their unique design. Clawfoot tubs have just a single bathtub sidewall (what you step over to get into the tub) and are often elevated on “feet”. CleanCut products are designed to be installed in more traditional-style bathtubs that have a tub rail or wall that is comprised of an inside and outside wall that extends completely to the floor.
